Tools

During the years I have developed some tools that I've used to handle the blog. You can find them in the /scripts folder. Here's how to use some of them

  • check-spelling - this tool spellchecks all the files in a folder. I so much wanted that to have been in place earlier... Now it's a lot of work to get it in order. This script will use the words that you have added to your VS Code settings file, presumed to be located at $HOME/Library/Application Support/Code/User/settings.json.

    # Output in the console
    bash scripts/check-spelling.sh _posts

    # Output result to a file
    bash scripts/check-spelling.sh _posts > spelling-results.txt 2>&1
  • markdown-lint - this tool runs linting on all markdown files in a directory passed as argument. It uses the configuration file ./.markdownlint.json to respect the same rules as used when posts are written one by one. You can pass --fix to automatically clean up simple problems.

    # Output in the console
    bash scripts/markdown-lint.sh _posts
    bash scripts/markdown-lint.sh _posts --fix

    # Output result to a file
    bash scripts/markdown-lint.sh _posts > linting-results.txt 2>&1
  • create_wordcloud_all - creates JSON files with word-cloud data in to /data/wc/ by calling create_wordcloud_year.sh. It will exclude common words defined in ./data/wc/exclude.json. It will not be run automatically so should be run locally and then committed to git.

    bash scripts/create_wordcloud_all.sh
